Health Initiatives for Safety and Stability in Africa (HIFASS) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) established in October 2007. It was primarily created to address the strategic manpower needs of Military health facilities.

Position: Maintenance Electrician

Location: Abuja

Job Type: Full Time

Salary Range: ₦150,000 – ₦200,000/month

Basic Functions:

The Maintenance Electrician, under the supervision of the Defence Reference Laboratory (DRL) Senior Biomedical Engineer, will provide general upkeep of electrical and cooling systems at the facility.

Essential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist in the installation, calibration, and maintenance of all cooling systems, electrical systems, and appliances, adhering to safety regulations and performance standards.
• Review blueprints to understand wiring configurations and placements.
• Perform daily checks and monitoring of electricity power supply, conducting preventive maintenance as necessary.
• Inspect electrical systems and appliances to identify faults or hazards, and promptly address them.
• Repair and maintain electrical systems, wiring, circuit breakers, and equipment.
• Perform daily checks and monitoring of air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, and generators, fixing any reported challenges.
• Respond to electrical equipment faults, perform repair services, and ensure preventive maintenance is carried out as scheduled.
• Maintain records and inventory of electrical equipment, installations, and supplies.
• Compile and cost all necessary tools and spare parts required for maintenance.
• Schedule and monitor preventive maintenance of electricity backup systems.
• Prepare monthly electrical and maintenance technical activity reports.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Basic troubleshooting skills using circuit diagrams and schematics.
• Thorough understanding of electricity, air conditioning, refrigeration, and medical laboratory electrical equipment.
• Ability to follow technical drawings, building plans, and instructions.
• Strong teamwork skills and ability to use initiative.
• Knowledge of applicable electrical safety regulations, standards, ethics, and codes.
• Computer literacy and good problem-solving skills.
• Strong oral and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to perform moderately heavy work and heavy lifts at times.

Job Requirements:

• Minimum Education / Training Requirement: Secondary School Certificate.
• Prior Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years working experience in electrical, air conditioning, and refrigeration.
• Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: TRADE test I, II, and III in electrical and air conditioning/refrigeration are preferred.
• Travel Requirements: N/A.
• Work Environment: Requires good interpersonal skills for effective job performance.
